Put on your hiking boots, because now you can walk through the 2nd longest gorge valley in Europe.
You will walk 16 km, mostly downhill, which, even if it doesn’t seem difficult at first, at the end of the day, you won’t need a bedtime story to sleep well. Samaria Gorge, an experience you won’t forget. Try it and make your holiday even more interesting.
Let’s check your Samaria program schedule:
- Pick-up close to your hotel/accommodation around 6:30 (in Rethymno area)
- After that, you will head straight towards Omalos, and you’ll have a short break for toilet before you enter the national park.
- You’ll start the tour on your own but your guide will always follow the group, and will tell checkpoints so that everyone reaches the end of the tour properly.
- The tour can be completed in 5-6 hours.
- Once you reach Agia Roumeli (end of the hike), depending on your tempo, you will have time to swim or eat something.
- Around 16:00-17:00, you’ll meet again your guide in the tavern on the shore, who will give you the boat tickets.
- The boat departs from Agia Roumeli to Sfakia at 17.30, where the bus to Rethymno is already waiting for you.
- The program lasts appr. from 06:30 till 19:30
- IMPORTANT!
- The tour is not for everyone. Pregnant women, people with leg and knee problems, with diabetes and in a bad physical condition, or people with health problems are not allowed to take part in the program.
- The trip is only permitted with suitable shoes.
- The tour is not easy, not only because of its length (16 km), but also because the continuous downward movement puts a strain on the knees, stepping on stones requires a lot of concentration and, in addition, the weather conditions (heat, humidity, etc.) can also affect the effect of the program on the body. At the same time, with proper physical condition and preparation for all of these, you can be richer with an eternal experience.

What you should bring to the Samaria excursion?
- Sports shoes/hiking shoes, hat/baseball cap, sunscreen, some food for the hike, it is recommended to have 2 x 0.5 liter bottles with you because you can refill water on the way, in the gorge), swimsuit, if you want to swim in the Libyan Sea at the end of the tour.
What does the Samaria program cost?
35 € / person
- The price includes 24% tax, tour leader and transfer.
- Extra to pay: Entrance fee (5 € / person, 0-15 years free) and boat ticket (13,50 € / person)
- The price does not include meals. (You can buy food just in Agia Roumeli at the end of your hike, depending on your time.)
- Payment is requested at least 3 days before the program starts.
